Separate discovery from assurance

A mechanism that lets software discover an agent does not, by itself, show that the agent completes tasks reliably. Registration, reputation and validation address different questions. A careful explainer names the mechanism under discussion before using broad words such as trust or identity.

Read the status of the document

The cited version of ERC-8004 is marked Draft and describes agent discovery with reputation and validation. That status describes a document, rather than the performance of a deployed service. A draft specification is not evidence that a particular service has implemented it or that an implementation has been independently evaluated. [C05]

Ask what a record represents

For a specific example, identify who created a record, what fields it contains and which claims remain self-asserted. A publication should not imply that the presence of an identifier establishes legal identity, ownership, competence or permission to act. Those conclusions require their own evidence and may depend on the service context.

Compare two hypothetical records

Suppose two agents both have registration entries, but only one has a documented task evaluation. This is a teaching example. The registration entries may help locate both agents, while the evaluation supports a different, narrower comparison. Combining the two into an unexplained trust score would obscure what each input means.

Keep versions attached

Specifications and implementations can change. Link the actual document, identify its status and avoid calling a proposal a universal standard. Before publication, recheck the source and any implementation-specific claim. The editorial goal is to make mechanisms legible, not to distribute a seal of reliability.
